FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER

Fractional CO2 laser is one of the most powerful and effective lasers for skin tightening, resurfacing, and rejuvenation. Your skin is the front line of defense against a hostile environment. The result: sun damage, uneven tone, superficial lines, and wrinkles. It’s time to help your skin feel young again, and you have Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Tightening to help.

The Fractional CO2 Laser emits a laser beam that produces controllable residual thermal damage. This then causes your skin to harness your body’s own potential to heal itself. Your body breaks down the damaged cells so your body can remove them, then they stimulate your body’s natural process to produce fresh, elastic and collagen cells which in turn promotes a further reduction in wrinkles and reveals a smoother more youthful skin appearance and skin tightening.

Laser Skin Tightening - Mild Treatments

Step up your skin treatments with CO2 laser resurfacing treatments. With a CO2 treatments, you can expect between 1-7 days of rough micro-crusting skin depending on whether you had the Frax Glow or Frax Pro treatment. Your skin will feel a bit rough and you can expect a bit of redness in your skin between 3-10 days depending on the intensity of the treatment.

This is the perfect laser resurfacing treatment to stimulate collagen on a superficial/medium level and give your skin some new life. In most cases for those wanting more intensive treatments we have our Dual Fractional RF & CO2 Treatment.

This level of treatment you should already be on a high-grade cosmeceutical skincare brand prior to this treatment. This is an important step that needs to be adhered to. Please book your consultation with Jess to discuss further.

RF Microneedling vs Fractional CO2 Laser

At Medwell Clinic, we use the Fraxis Duo, which combines the power of a fractional CO2 laser with radiofrequency microneedling (RF microneedling).  The two modalities can be used on their own or combined as alternating treatments. Treatments combining Co2 laser with RF microneedling provide a better and more enhanced therapeutic outcome than CO2 on its own. You can expect improvement in skin aging, sun damage, stretch marks, acne scar and many other skin concerns.

  • skin tightening and firming
  • reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
  • smoother skin texture
  • reduction in enlarged pores
  • improved appearance of acne scarring

Full face CO2 Laser and RF microneedling cost $799. Four treatments are recommended, and if you buy a package of 4, there is a 20% discount.

What is CO2 Laser & RF Microneedling?

So how do these two treatments stack up, and what are the key differences and similarities? To understand the difference in how the fractional CO2 laser works compared to RF microneedling, you must understand how the different technologies work. Both CO2 and RF microneedling work on the premise of creating a controlled injury to your skin – breaking down scar collagen and damaged areas.

In making this injury, they activate your skin’s healing function, releasing factors in the skin which result in healthy new collagen being laid down. However, while CO2 Lasers works on the total thickness of the skin (epidermis and dermis), RF microneedling works primarily in the dermis. So you would think that CO2 lasers are superior? Not necessarily, and let us explain why.

Depth of Treatment

CO2 lasers affect epidermis and dermis: When applied to the skin, the CO2 laser creates controlled injury in a thin column through the full thickness of the skin.   This is beneficial because it establishes collagen contraction and skin tightening. But it is the effect on the dermis stimulates your skin to mount the repair response and lay down healthy collagen.

RF Microneedling creates a more selective dermal response: With RF microneedling treatments, on the other hand, needles are inserted into the skin before radiofrequency energy is discharged. Consequently, the surface of the skin (epidermis) only receives microneedle pricks. The injury to break down scars or damaged tissue occurs at the needle tip in the dermis. Thus, the radiofrequency creates a cone of injury, with the broadest part deeper in the dermis required.

However, it is often more beneficial to use combinations of fractional CO2 and RF microneedling except in people with darker skin types. Though the RF microneedling is safe to use in all skin types (fair to dark), CO2 laser should not be used in dark skin types because of the risk of hypo or hyperpigmentation after treatment.

Laser skin tightening/rejuvenation treatments involve only very mild discomfort. You may experience a prickling sensation as the skin tissue is heated. We use topical anaesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable. There are various degrees at to the extent of resurfacing we can do depending on what you are wanting. We can discuss this within your complimentary consultation.

Your laser practitioner will apply your numbing on your skin for approximately 30 minutes. This will then get removed and your laser practitioner will move the device carefully over the treatment area. this is done in a stamping mode and you can hear a small buzz. Your eyes will be fully protected during your treatment and we ensure you are comfortable and relaxed, and we take our time ensuring the best treatment for you. Once the treatment is finished then we will apply some healing balm on your skin, run through your aftercare again and give you an aftercare pack to take home with your aftercare instructions.

The condition of your skin and your general health will dictate how you recover and many treatments you need to undergo. The amount of treatments also depends on your lifestyle. Lighter skin resurfacing treatments have less downtime however you will need more treatments on a monthly basis to get your results. If you don’t mind more downtime then we can do more intensive treatments with fewer sessions. We will discuss these factors during your consultation and work out the best plan forward tailored to you specifically.

You will see improvement from about 7-10 days, however your skin will continue to renew itself and you will only see your true results at 4-6 weeks. Your treatments are generally spaced 4-6 weeks apart for this reason.

Below is a list of some of the important points to take into consideration.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure 2 -4 weeks prior to having treatment, this includes: sun baking, sun beds, sun burn.
  • No fake tan
  • Stop any prescription Vitamin A products 4 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Stop your cosmeceutical vitamin A products 2 weeks prior
  • Make sure you let your laser practitioner know if you are taking any medication.
  • Must not have been on Roaccutaine for 6-12 months
  • For very naturally tanned or darker skin types you will need to follow practice product protocol for 4 weeks prior to treatment. This will be discussed during your consultation.

We will give you a full breakdown of what is needed during your consultation.

Aftercare is so important when having any medical grade clinical treatments. Skincare plays a huge part in helping your skin produce collage and elastin after your treatments and help prolong your overall results. We will discuss non negotiable products with you that you are required to use after your treatment, and we can discuss optional medical grade products that will accelerate and improve your results.

Other things to take into consideration:

  • Avoid direct sun for 2 – 4 weeks. This includes; sunbaking and any sport or activity that exposes your skin to direct sunlight for long periods of time.
  • Wear a good quality zinc sun protection. You are unable to use chemical sunscreens after this treatment. We do have this on site should you choose to use our products.

Yes. We use a combinaion of Secret RF skin resurfacing as well as CO2 laser resurfacing for skin tightening.

  • RF or radiofrequency fractional skin treatments can be effective, even for old stretch marks
  • FraxisDUO CO2 gives the best results, however healing may take up to 9-10 days. Most patients will need up to 3-4 sessions for best results.

Red stretch marks are more predictable in the outcome, white stretch marks are less predicable and depend on your immune system to remodel collagen and elastin. We can asses your stretchmarks during a thorough consultation with us which is always complimentary.

FraxisDUO CO2 Fractional laser resurfacing has revolutionised the treatment of wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, skin pigmentation including age spots, sun spots, under eye bags, freckles, and liver spots. Additionally with laser fractional treatments, wrinkles and poor skin tone can be addressed.

This type of treatment started with with skin rolling and needling over 15 years ago, however this form of treatment has been outdated a decade ago by CO2 fractional laser. Although skin needling has its place and we certainly love this treatment, now, with lasers of different wavelengths we can safely and effectively focus in on a treatment for a particular condition. to put this in perspective, when we treat acne scars and stretchmarks  we use a different wavelength of laser than what we would use for skin pigmentation or treating vessels in the skin. Another form of fractional rejuvenation that we offer is RF or RadioFrequency treatment, unlike laser, RF fractional treatments concentrates energy deep in the dermal or lower layers of the skin. If acne scars or stretchmarks are new (red/pink/shallow), we will use of RF due to the lower down time and the targeted dermal remodeling. The FraxisDUO is also used for early/young skin types and laser rejuvenation in darker skin types.
